Spilled Wine weigela (pronounced way-guh-luh), a large, dense flowering shrub, produces bunches of blooms in spring. Traditionally, the pink flowers may reappear in summer, but new cultivars are available in many different shades and produce more blooms throughout summer and fall.

Spilled wine weigela (Weigela florida) grows in Zones 4 to 8, where it’ll attract butterflies, bees and birds to your yard. Planting it in areas with at least six hours of full sun is best. Weigela requires regular watering, especially during the hotter summer months.
The plant tolerates clay soil, and deer generally avoid it. Its flowers last throughout springtime, and the grower Proven Winners states that its purple-black foliage is plenty colorful even when the flowers are not in bloom.
