Experience
Peggy Riccio is a horticulturist and professional garden communicator in Northern Virginia. For more than 30 years, she has been writing about gardening for national magazines. In 2014, she created pegplant.com, an online resource for gardening in the Washington DC metro area. In 2018, Peggy initiated a local monthly gardening newsletter. In 2020, she created a Facebook group called Culinary Herbs and Spices. For many years, Peggy has delivered in person and virtual presentations about gardening, culinary herbs, and edible flowers.
Peggy is a member of GardenComm, the association for garden communicators. From 2020-22, she served as Regional Director. Currently she is serving a 3-year term as the National Director for Region IV, a board position. She writes for their newsletter and blog and is responsible for coordinating regional meetings.
Peggy is a long-time member of the Herb Society of America. From 2019 to 2023, she served as chair of the local Potomac Unit and now is serving a 3-year term as the mid-Atlantic District Delegate, a board position. As District Delegate, Peggy represents the largest district in the Herb Society with 7 Units. Peggy also writes for their newsletter and blog and is responsible for assembling and coordinating annual regional meetings.
Peggy is a member of the local Camelot Garden Club, part of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC). For Camelot, Peggy volunteers to help with projects, including identifying and securing speakers for the meetings. For the NGC, Peggy served as the blog administrator from 2021-23. Peggy solicited and edited articles from members, secured photos, and worked with the webmaster post blogs every 2 weeks. She initiated a subscription service and added a standard footer to each article to encourage membership.
